It seems that everyone is going to Thailand right now. I have friends thinking about going, friends going, and friends there already. How can I be left behind? So few months back I also did my Thailand debut.
It is cheap, easy, full of great food and fun! While by no means my first international adventure, my time in the country was the first time I truly felt outside of my comfort zone. Overall, Thailand speaks for itself. It’s so well known around the world that when you hear the name, you already think about beaches, beauty, jungles, and food. And your thoughts are spot on.
Things were actually executed as planned and our 6 days excursion to the Historic Kingdom of Joy has left a permanent mark on our minds. I am so excited to pen down every minute detail of our tour to Pattaya and Bangkok hoping that my travel experiences will benefit other travellers seeking guidance towards Thailand Tourism. I travelled to Thailand with parents and uncle and aunt. (I know, I know Thailand with parents does raise eyebrows but this is also fun experience 🙂).
I hope my experiences will benefit travellers planning a trip to Thailand with their families.
After reaching Suvarnabhumi airport, we took a mini van to Pattaya, organised by our travel agent, it’s slightly more expensive than the other buses but this includes transport that drops you directly at your hotel. We took a comfortable ride from the airport which lasted for around two hours.
We stayed at ibis Pattaya Hotel, perfect budget hotel with unlimited wifi and buffet breakfast. The hotel is along Second Road, parallel to Pattaya Beach Road. A slow walk to the beach takes about 5 minutes.
We were very hungry, soon after check-in, we ate dinner at an Indian restaurant next to the hotel. I cannot describe happiness on parents, uncle and aunt’s face to find garama garam roti and sabzee, along with hot cup of chai (Tea). If you are a Veggie, you will find several Indian restaurants and vegetarian Thai food options as well. But I feel, it is not really worth it to try Indian food in a country known for renowned Thai Sea food in the World.
After sumptuous meal, we went for a walk on the Second Road. And those who know Pattaya, you can imagine awkwardness I had to face when we crossed some strip bars while exploring Pattaya by night :D. Pattaya has lots of hookers around and you will find many single men looking around for girls which may be annoying for families. I also noticed several local Thai girls giving company to tourists from around the world in restaurants and bars. This is just normal all over Thailand.
After the adventurous night stroll across streets of Pattaya, we got back to hotel and hit the bed straight away.Next day morning we had to head to Coral islands from Pattaya beach by speed boat post breakfast .
Coral islands (Day 2)
Ko Lan or the Coral Islands was a fantastic experience. Just 7 kms from the city by a speedboat, if you are in Pattaya, you have not really visited it until you have visited the Ko Lan beach. Wear shorts or knee length dress as you have to do lot of walking inside water. The next morning, we started from the Pattaya Beach by a speed boat towards Coral island. On our way towards this beautiful island, we had a stopover to enjoy some unplanned adventure activities viz. para sailing and underwater sea walk.
Oh my God were the only words I murmured while the parachute pulled me over from the platform right towards the sky. I felt the weightlessness of my body as I observed my feet hanging in the air. The tiny speed boat continued to pull me over as it directed my parachute. I was flying like a bird yet without wings. This experience was out of the world, literally. I was almost left with several minutes of hangover even after the parachute safely landed me back on the platform. This was indeed worth the THB 500 spent.
After an adventurous spell of the adrenaline rush, we headed back by our speed boat towards the Ko Lan beach.
Wow! is the exclamation most of us had after we witnessed the clear blue waters of the Coral Sea. I stood almost speechless as the beautiful morning sun showered its rays over the beautiful water that glittered like the blue topaz gemstone. This was the perfect time to bask in the beauty of the coral waters and fill up your camera memories with some divine pictures.
There are several eateries serving fresh sea food on the Island too. If you decide to swim in the sea, there are also paid restroom services available which is why you will also find them clean. The entire visit including the adventure activities is more than half a day excursion from the Pattaya city.
Since it was part of tour package, after we came back to the city, we were taken to Indian food restaurant for lunch. That is when I felt I am in India only after seeing the food spread, with fellow Indians, like dozens of them queuing up for lunch.
Every package tour available to Bangkok and Pattaya usually include on the very first day (evening) this famous cabaret show ‘Alcazar’.Questions in your mind – Is it worth watching? What is so special about this show?
Well, you will have your few questions answered when you reach the venue. Any hotel you are staying in Pattaya, is just about 10-15 minutes’ drive to this show. On arrival when you see 25- 30 tourist coaches carrying tourists from China, India, Korea and from many other countries, you begin to think there must be something special about this show, it looks like every tourist who has come to Pattaya wants to see this show. (This scene is valid though for every show in Pattaya) after-all everyone is on a holiday and Pattaya is an entertainment city.
Overall it promises to delivers a great entertainment. In the end, you are sure to appreciate and compare it with other shows you have seen in the other part of the world
The best part was when they danced on ‘Aja Nachle Nacle mere yaar’ song . All the Indians in the crowd started whistling and dancing and people form other countries were amazed. They also danced on Chinese and Korean song which made people of those countries ecstatic .Beautifully dressed performers, who are actually lady boys, come out after every show for an opportunity to have your picture clicked with them. (No one forgets to leave a small tip in exchange of photograph and as an appreciation for their brilliant performance.)
After fun evening we headed for food and ended up eating Indian food again, thanks to the grown ups .This time it was some Sardarji restaurant. All my Thai food expeditions and shopping happened in Bangkok where we stayed for three nights and four days.Next blog will be about our Bangkok diaries which include temple walks, river cruise, floating market and Safari World.
Third day began with morning walk by the Pattaya Beach followed by sumptuous breakfast buffet at the hotel. And then it was time to head to Bangkok, lots of fun and food awaited us.
